| | Watching your Potential College team plays |
|

|
Why is it important to watch your potential college team play?
It is important to watch any college team that you are interested in playing for many reasons.
Playing Style What if you play in a kick and run system in high school or club ball and the team that you are interested in, plays a possession style. Can you adjust your game to that style? What about the reserve? You play in a possession style and the style or the team you are interest in plays kick and run. Will that be frustrating for you? How comfortable are you doing sometime new that you are not use to?
What about formation? What type of formation do they play? Does your style of play fits into their system? Can you adjust? Do they play zone or man to man?
Team personality? Every team as a personality..What is it? Do you believe or does your personality match theirs? Do they show class on the field? Do they complain a lot to the referee? Do they play dirty or talk smack during the game? Are they a physical or soft team? These things should be important to you. You want to go into a situation that you are comfortable with.
What about the coach? Some players get so absorbed with making a positive impression that they completely neglect to learn anything about the coach. That's not good. You need to learn if you'll like playing for the coach you're talking to. Does he seem a little too relaxed, like he perhaps doesn't take his sport very seriously? Or is he too strict and intense? Getting a read on the coach can help you decide if you'll enjoy playing for him.
How is he on the sidelines? How does he interacts with the players during the game? During half time? The answer to these questions will help you decide which coaching style will be best for your development. |

To make the women soccer team, you must be a serious student. If you aren’t interested in attending and excelling in your classes, stop reading. If you are or plan to, Emmanuel College might be the college where you want to play soccer. Our student-athletes are just that, student-athletes, maintaining a 3.0 GPA is a primary objective of the team.
On the soccer field, I am just as demanding. You must play hard, you must play to win, and you must play to make yourself and your teammates better every day. If that is not for you, I understand, look elsewhere, but I don’t consider that too much to ask. Our players play hard, they play to win, and they have an unbelievable amount of fun doing both. If you play soccer at Emmanuel College you will get better, and you will have the most fun of your playing career. Emmanuel College recruits players based on: - Positive energy
- Positive attitude
· Work ethic- Technical and Tactical Speed
- Can accepts strong criticism
- Self-motivator
Pre-season camp begins in late August (on the earliest NCAA legal practice opportunity). Saints players will tell you that their camp experience is one of the most enjoyable and exciting parts of their education at Emmanuel. With only one week from the beginning of our pre-season to our first match, it is important that we begin teaching and integrating new players right from the start. It is critical that we develop chemistry on and off the field. Players are evaluated on individual skills and athleticism, but just important is each player’s ability to adapt to the college game and be a positive part of our team. We believe in providing the opportunity to compete to every committed student athlete. Saints players will tell you that women who come to Emmanuel fit and excited to learn have a terrific experience during pre-season and on our team.

Now that the college soccer season is under way, it is time to start thinking about setting up those unofficial visit.
The unofficial visit is one of the most powerful self-marketing tools. It's a classic example of taking control of the recruiting process. Instead of waiting around for a coach to invite you to campus, you step up and say defiantly, "I'm really into this school. And I'm going to do whatever it takes to come visit."
Contact the Admission Office and find out when they are offering tours. Contact the coach and see whether s/he is around during the tour. This is a good time to meet with the coach.
Come prepare with some questions, that relates to you and what you want from the college soccer experience. When I meet with a recruit, I am not concern whether she can play or not. I am more concern whether she has the right character for our program. I also want to see how competitive she is.
A competitior is not only competitive on the soccer field but in other aspects of their lives.
From this visit, I will finalize my recruiting list. |

| | Emmanuel falls to Wellesley College in exhibition play |

Looking to gain valuable experience and the opportunity to see what it takes to be at the top of NCAA Division III soccer, the Emmanuel College women’s side took on Wellesley College Saturday, eventually falling 6-0 to the Blue Pride on the new Roberto Clemente Field.
With a handful of bumps and bruises hold out a quartet of players through the preseason exhibition matches, the Saints suited just 23, but managed to hold their own against the Blue Pride. Wellesley College got on the board in the 24Th minute when Amanda Young (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) scored the first of her four goals of the game. Young stole the ball from the young Emmanuel College center back and easily beat the Emmanuel College freshman keeper Jessica D'Octovia. (Pawling, NY) Just 5 mins later Young would do the same thing again, stealing the ball from the Emmanuel College young defender to put the Blue Pride ahead 2-0. Young netted her third goal with less then 2 minutes remaining in the half to give Wellesley College a 3-0 half time lead.
All 23 players for Emmanuel College saw action in this game. Freshman Chloe Fortin (Southbay, CT) and Jackie Murray (Saugus, MA) split time in the Emmanuel College net in the second half. The Saints had 10 shots on goal and Wellesley had 14.
The Saints will welcome back their alumni for their annual alumni game on Wednesday, September 2.
Emmanuel College will open their season on the road this weekend when they travel to New England College for a 1:00 PM start |

During the month of August, I have had the pleasure of meeting with a lot of you during your campus visit. I have truly enjoyed our conversation and finding out more about you has a person and not just a soccer player.
For those players whom I have not yet met in person, please contact our Admission Office and schedule a tour and visit. The purpose of the college visit is to figure out whether Emmanuel College or any college is the right fit for you both academically and athletically.
There are a few questions that should be answered after your visit. They are :
Do you qualified for Emmanuel College academically? (SAT and GPA)
Can I play/compete at this level?
What if I don't start my freshman year. Can I live with that?
Does Emmanuel College provide me with the right balance of academics, social life, athletics, and other extracurricular activities?
Can I see myself on this campus for four years?
Can I play for this coach? Do I agree with his coaching style and philosophy
Am I willing to commit a substantial amount of your time to excel at this level?
Can I afford tuition, or will I qualify for financial aid or an academic scholarship?
Am I willing to take out a loan to finance my education? |

| | D1, D2 and D3. What are the real differences? |
|
| Posted By: Coach Wayne Currie on 2009-07-13 21:29:53 EST | Email Story | Flag As Spam | Comments (3) |
|
The first thing that we have to do when discussing this particular topic, is we have to dispel the number one myth and that is that D1, D2 and D3 correspond directly with the quality of the play in the particular division.
In other words a lot of people seem to think that DI by virtue of being number one is best, D2 would be second best and D3 would be third best or awful by some accounts. But really that’s not the case. The second thing to really take into consideration is what are the real differences between these three divisions and they really fall into 2 kind of categories. The first is of course scholarships and this gets a lot of attention because athletic scholarships are a pretty hot topic, a pretty neat thing, you know something that people really like to discuss a lot. Division one and two teams have scholarships, athletic scholarships. Division three teams don’t have scholarships athletic scholarships. However an interesting statistic that you should know is that the average division three athlete is receiving on average more financial aid through a variety of grant programs, loans, various awards than the average division one player. That’s a pretty fascinating statistic. As far as scholarships in division one go just because a team is allowed scholarships doesn’t mean it has all the scholarships that it is allotted.
The NCAA allows a certain number of scholarships per team and not every team necessarily has fully funded all of those scholarships. So you may be allowed ten scholarships for a given team and a given sport. But the athletic department may only have enough money to fund three or four in many cases and indeed this is the case. Many teams, many Division I teams while they are allowed to have scholarships don’t have the full allotment funded. So that’s another thing to take into consideration. The two main issues that are the real differences between the Divisions, scholarships is certainly one. And the second one is the time commitment.
And this is something that really should not be overlooked because it really gets to the core of what it is that you want your college experience to be like. Athletics in Division I should be considered basically a full time job. Athletes spend five, six hours a day doing various activities associated with the team whether that’s lifting weights, doing fitness work, going to the trainer practicing, traveling to games, playing in games. And they do this year round. By contrast in Division III for example, the time commitment is much less. Now during the season it’s no doubt very intense in division three but the off season is much more restricted. The NCAA has very clearly restricted the amount of time that division three athletes can spend with their team.
The effect that this has is that it dramatically changes the kind of college experience that you have. So if you’re playing sports in Division III, you will find that you have more time to pursue other college activities. Whether that may be student government newspapers or other student groups. And this is certainly something that a lot of people like to have. They like to broaden their horizons a bit when they get to school. Of course there are athletes who really want to go to school and focus on playing sports and going to school and for them Division I maybe a better bet. So the bottom line is, before you just say reflexively that you want to play Division I because it’s the best, forget about that myth, that idea that Division I is necessarily the best, because to be quite frank, many, there are many top Division II and Division III teams that could beat many division one teams. It‘s not necessarily the rule and certainly the best D1 teams are usually the best teams in the country. But the quality in D3 and D2 is very high. So forget the myth that D1 is necessarily the best, and also take into the consideration the real issue, the scholarships issue as well as the time commitment and then you’ll have a more realistic sense of what the whole D1, D2, D3 hierarchy is actually about. |
