Well, last time I was here I wrote about District Prelims. Well, as for finals, finals was great. I was seated first for the 100 breast, but placed second. Not too shabby, I must say. I still got a 1:08.4something...It was a great race! Also, my 200 Medley & Free relay finished third, qualifying for Regionals! Our relays were very excited. (:
Regions:
Regions was amazing! I got to see all my friends from club, and also compete against some of them! It is so much fun when the competition is positive, because a lot of people end up doing so well. In fact, so many people did so well that there were some region records broken! I swam the 100 breast. I got a 1:08 again, wasn't too upset. I was aiming for a 1:07 or even better, a 1:06. But I was content with the 1:08. Also, the two relays I mentioned earlier qualified to come back for finals! Everyone was happy. (: Finals was great. Our 200 medley relay qualified for States! So I'm proud to say that the girls 200 medley relay is the first EVER to qualify for states for South County Secondary school! It's so amazing! Our free relay barely missed the cut. 1:43.3....the cut was 1:43.0....it was pretty upsetting, but we were all happy with the fact that we had dropped THREE whole seconds! Both relays set two new school records! I swam 100 breast at finals, and I will admit, I wasn't too pleased to see the 1:09 sitting on the board. I was pretty upset, but I told myself that I would push myself to get that 1:07 or 1:06 at States. I want it so bad! My second 50 of the race was pretty slow compared to my prelims swim. I came back with a 36 during prelims, and a 37 at finals. But this just makes me want to push harder for my goal time!
As for states, it's this upcoming weekend at George Mason University. This will be interesting, because I swim there every day for practice, and I really don't like swimming here at GMU. But it's definitely a fast pool. So I'm hoping that our relay does AMAZING at states and I achieve my goal times. I'd love to see the relay come back for finals. Along with relay, we have one boy coming to swim with us. He's always been the only boy for states! Good job to Ricky Herrmann!
I will definitely keep in touch about States. see ya later! |

It's been a while since I've updated this. I'll try to do a better job at this.
So as all the dual meets for high school have finished, the real intense part of high school swimming is starting to arise. Yesterday was prelims of Districts. It was held at Lee District. My coach was very impressed with my team's times and splits. I'm very proud of my team through the team captain's perspective.
My coach decided that it would be fun for me to swim the 50 free and the 100 breast for Districts this year. To be honest, I was not at all excited about the 50 free. I am so not a sprinter, and my defects are that I am short and I get "stuck" on the wall when I flip turn. What I mean by "stuck" is that I have a slow turn, and I get sorta "stuck" on the wall when everyone else is pushing off. My club coach and I are trying to fix this problem now. I mean, I'm not a sprinter, but I can do it. I can keep up with everyone that first lap, but then my turn kills the race and I end up playing catch up with everyone else. So I swam the 50 free last night, and my time was a 26.60. Not too shabby for a girl who is 5' 2''.
My 100 breast race on the other hand, was a success! I went into that race worried and nervous; worried because I haven't been down around my best time (1:08.11) for a long time now, and nervous because I so badly wanted to get my states cut (1:08.89). I thought to myself, "Just swim a 1:09 at least. I will be happy with that." I just decided that I will swim my hardest and be proud of my time. I think what also bugged me a little before the race was the fact that it was my LAST Districts ever!
But I swam the 100 breast, and the first thing I heard was my dad asking me what the states cut was. I told him, "1:08.89." He then turns to my timers and says to me, "I think you just got your states cut." With the biggest smile on my face, I got out of the water and headed towards my team area. My coach was there to congratulate me. My time was a 1:08.58, and I am now seated FIRST for the 100 breast stroke in my District.
Tonight are the finals for Districts, so things will be more intense. But again, I'm just going to swim my heart out and see what happens. Hopefully I can get my time down to at least a 1:06 for Jr. Nationals when Regionals and States come around in the upcoming weeks. (:
-Rachel
PS. I got my first acceptance letter to Cleveland State University (: |

Well, to start off I'm Rachel. I'm short and I drive an SUV; a very proud owner of man truck. :) and really, that's all you need to know now.
Anyways, I'm a senior at South County Secondary. My school is never listed on the internet. For example, Facebook, MySpace, beRecruited, etc. It's because SoCo is a fairly new school. We opened up three years ago, due to the over crowding conflict at Hayfield. Oh well, now we're over crowded and got 7 brand new spankin' trailers!
Well, high school swimming has OFFICIALLY started! I am one of the captains for the team. This year is going to ROCK, especially with our new freshmen that came in. Maybe I won't be alone at States like I was for the past two years and we'll actually have a girls relay going! I'm soo looking forward to this season. It'll be the best!
Swim & Rock was also this past weekend. I was very pleased with my times in the 200 and 100 breast stroke. I went a 2:33 in the 200 and a 1:09 in the 100. This is a big deal to me because usually, I only go those times much later in the season. But to see a 1:09 during November? That just impresses me! I can't wait to see what I can get at Tom Dolan. Hopefully, I can get that Jr. Nats cut time for the 100 breast. 1:06? MAAAYBE! |
