My Chelsea Ladies Premiership experience!

Posted By: Cally Beaumont on 2008-09-12 18:29:32 ESTEmail Story  |  Flag As Spam  |  Comments (0)

I have been keeping it under my hat but for the last two weeks I have been training with FA Premiership side Chelsea and it has been the most AMAZING experience!
First let me say what really nice, friendly people I have met there - not least of all the legendary Lorrie Fair - first team manager Steve Jones, assistant Pete Steward, Reserves manager Mark Parsons, his assistant manager Ken Sauverin and a whole group of really great girls/ladies who all made me feel really welcome... THANKS!

In my first session I was dropped in at the deep end as reserves training had been cancelled so I got to train directly with just the first team, Steve told me not to be intimidated by the seven England players on the team...! I wasn't until he said that, lol, as i have played internationally and been part of the first British girls team to win the DANA youth world cup in Denmark two years ago, effectively playing national teams from all over the world, and we were runners up two years before that.

That first session went really well but Lianne kept faking me out, so the following week I was ready for her and she only got past me once or twice :O) - not many players can say that, lol.

This Thursday was the last day of my evaluation and sadly I didn't get signed but it was all very very positive. I have not failed in anyway, I played well but I would be in competition against two England centre backs for my place and because of my age I am Year 3 so that means I would be filtering directly into the first team and Mark says I have to get a years high level playing experience before they could take me on so he has offered to introduce me through the front door of any premiership or southern division team to get exactly that!

I have achieved and take only all things positive from the whole experience and have my sights set high!

My first goal of the season!

Posted By: Cally Beaumont on 2008-08-31 19:23:51 ESTEmail Story  |  Flag As Spam  |  Comments (0)

Despite nursing two cracked ribs I still managed to open my scoring account in our first game of the season, and my first game as Captain...

We were 1 - 0 down in the first 15 minutes due to a free kick that wasn't given to us and, surprisingly, play was allowed to continue in the other teams favour, however it was from a corner in the second half that I headed the ball in to draw our team level.

Later in the game the opposition won an appeal for hand ball (when in fact it was boob-ball) against another defender but failed to score the penalty so I guess there is some karma in the world :)

Towards the end of the match my ribs were aching and then I received a hard challenge to the knee which left me limping to the end as we had used our only sub and a final goal was scored by the opposition to end the game 2 - 1 to them.

Although not an auspicious start to the season, we have many new faces on our team now so a period of settling in can only be expected and so all in all it was a good day

Have a look at the new pictures in my gallery for action shots of the game - and there is some great video footage of the last two games being compiled, hopefully ready by the end of the week!

Former Head Coach statement

**Former Head Coach statement**

To Whom It May Concern

I am John Lawson, a level 2 coach who has been involved in Girls and Ladies football (soccer) development for the last 10 years in the South of England.

I have known Cally Beaumont since 2000 when I noticed her as a football (soccer) player taking part in a selection process for the county (state) area games, she was selected for the squad and was part of the successful team that won the tournament that year.

After that in 2001 she was keen to join my team, Arun Devils, where she became an integral member of the squad for the next 3 seasons, during which time she learnt and progressed growing into a regular starting player and also received Managers Player of the Year.

Her contribution as a versitile player was a great benefit to the team and its success during that period, she was a member of the squad that won the Surrey (state) League title U13, the Sussex (state) League title U13, the Surrey (state) League Cup U13 and the Sussex (state) League Cup U13, never before achieved by any team.

During this period she was also a member of the Brighton & Hove Albion Centre of Excellence, picked from the best players within the Sussex (state) area which was part of a league program that played games against other centres such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham.

At the end of the season 2003-2004, after winning the Sussex (state) League Cup and Title U14 again the whole team moved to play ladies (senior) football (soccer)  for the start of the season 2004-2005 as Bognor Ladies.

The first season was a new challenge which Cally rose to with the rest of the team and were again successful winning the Sussex (state senior) Ladies Division 2 title and were promoted 3 divisions to the South East Counties Regional Division 1 for the start of the 2005-2006 season. This proved to be probably the best season yet for the squad, playing against players who had been to the highest levels in the game including ex-England players.
They remained unbeaten for the season in the League and League Cup competition, with their best result being the 5-1 defeat of the team who up until then had been undefeated in the division above them!

The team took part in many summer tournaments, but the squad was always interested in a new challenge and took part in the Dana Cup in Denmark, one of the largest youth football (soccer) tournaments in the world. In 2004 the team was 3rd in the U14 age group and in 2006 they won the U16 age group beating what was in effect the Icelandic international team for U16 in the final 2-1.

Cally as a player is strong and dependable, very versitile, with the ability to play in nearly all areas of the field. Her main strengths are through the centre of the team, either at the back or the midfield to the front, she is not really a wide player and to some degree she would be of least benefit to the team in these areas.

She is strong in the air, which is unusual in the girls and ladies game, she scores goals from corners and is strong in the air defending corners. Very strong in the tackle, with the ability to win the ball and then look up and distribute it effectively, turning defence into attack. She also is strong on the ball, being able to run with it, opening up space to either include other players or make her own chances to score. She is very much a team player, lively in training and vocal on the pitch, encouraging other players.

I would recommend Cally to any team as she would be an asset, always willing to learn and looking for ways to improve.

Arson badly damages football club

Fire at Bognor Town FC

The social club provided a much-needed source of income for the club

A fire which badly damaged a clubhouse and bar is being treated as arson.

Fire engines from across West Sussex were sent to the blaze at Bognor Town FC, following a call at 0510 BST.

The first on the scene, from Bognor, found flames engulfing the walls and roof of the wooden building.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was being treated as arson after its investigation dog found an accelerant at the scene.

The clubhouse suffered severe damage from fire, heat and smoke but firefighters were able to stop the blaze spreading to the main function area of the club.

The club said it was devastated at the damage to the social club, which was a much-needed source of income.

But it said its forthcoming games would not be affected.

Not a good start to the season, but thankfully the pitch is still the best in the south of England

Bending it like Beckham...

Posted By: Cally Beaumont on 2008-08-09 11:04:11 ESTEmail Story  |  Flag As Spam  |  Comments (0)

Since I was 12 I’ve been bending it like Beckham and I'm 18 now looking to take my soccer and academic studies to the next level so here is my full bio:

Currently I attend full-time at Worthing College ladies football (soccer) Academy which I captained last season (its first year) and which runs concurrently with my BTEC Sport National Diploma.

Outside of this, I play in the South East Counties Premier Division for Bognor Regis Town Ladies FC, where I have been since its inception (winning promotion twice) and will captain them next season.

I played for Arundel Devils whom I was with for four seasons previous to this where we enjoyed a fantastic range of national and international successes, including being the first British girls team to win the DANA World Cup in Denmark in 2006 (although I was actually playing for Bognor my old team re-formed especially to play again in the DANA Cup as ‘The Devils’), and two years before this in 2004 we came third overall in the DANA Cup. This was our first international experience so bearing in mind we had no backing apart from parents; these were both pretty amazing results!

In the 2002-2003 season Arundel Devils played in two leagues (Surrey and Sussex). Here we won both leagues and both league cups and, of note, I was the highest goal scorer across both leagues.

During this season I was also awarded Managers Player of the Year. The following year Arundel Devils were awarded the Team of The Year by Arun District Council’s Youth Sport Achievements Scheme.

Whilst playing for Arun Devils on a Sunday in 2002-2003 I was also playing on a Saturday for Brighton and Hove Albion Centre of Excellence, however the management left a lot to be desired so I did not take up the offer of a place the following season.

My first experience playing high level sport was when I was 8; I was selected to represent my county (state) in the BAA Gatwick Youth Games.

For the first two years I represented my county in athletics, I was selected again the following year to play for the county hockey team.

The following two years I was selected to play in the county girl’s football team. In our first year we won Gold (where I was the winning goal scorer), and in the second year we were runners up, losing on penalties (as I was the only player on my team to score one – bottom left ;) ).

However I was then too old to play for them again and although I had always played for my school teams it was only during this time that I joined my first club team, Worthing Minors, here I played centre midfield and received Managers Player of the Year.

As previously mentioned I competed in many sports including county (state)cross-country running (achieving Gold, 5th, Gold and Silver whilst in middle school).

I also competed and played above my age group in hockey (age 10 in an under 16’s team).

Other sports include rugby, netball, basketball, athletics (track and field), amongst others that I enjoy as a hobby such as snowboarding and my latest outrageous activity I have fallen in love with is bungee jumping (photo)!

As you can see I have always taken my love for sport seriously and will continue looking for new opportunities to take it even further along with my academic studies.

I’m always looking for ways to improve on the field, in the classroom and as a person. I believe that a scholarship will allow me the opportunity to do so.

To sum up then - I’m hard working, totally dedicated, and give 110% EVERYTIME! If I had to describe one main quality that I bring to a team beyond skill, experience, being a team player and a very positive attitude, it would be my ability to read the game and to convey this to the rest of the team.

So, thanks for taking the time to read this and have a look at my photos!
