This weekend we beat Kamehameha 17-7 in the final game we will play against them. We had a great offensive and defensive game. Overall I had 8 tackles and 6 assist. This performance pushes my total record to 41 total tackles this season. Our next two games are against Kau and Konawaena, how we do in those games determines whether or not we will play in the finals.

Ka Makani win over Kohala 14-6

This weekend we played Kohala, the only team we lost to in the first round of BIIF games, and we won 14-6. Overall I had a good game, I made 3 sacks and a  couple other tackles. As a team we need to work on playing at our own speed, not down to the opponents level because we have harder competition in the near future. Our season record is 5-1 so far. read more here

HPA BLANKS KONAWAENA 12-0 Win on Home Game 10/4/2008

"We just had to get to our blocks," HPA senior center/defensive tackle Elliot Kastner said. "And everyone did what they had to do."

"It's definitely a good win," Kastner said. "We needed the win to show the island what we had."

Kastner and the rest of the line opened up holes for a ground game that gained 213 yards on 45 carries.

Junior Keoni Colson (18 carries, 60 yards) and senior Trent Schutte (11 carries, 55 yards) led the attack, and senior Jonathan Himalaya scored the game's only touchdown on a 3-yard run with 42 seconds left in the first quarter. Junior Kaleikaumaka Konrad's extra point gave HPA its 12-0 lead.

The line also gave freshman quarterback Keanu Yamamoto time to complete 7 of 13 passes for 64 yards. He did lose 5 yards, however, on a fourth-quarter sack by senior defensive tackle Kawika Karratti, his ninth of the year.

Hawaii Prep KaMakani vs Ka'u 53-0

This weekend we played Ka'u. We won 53-0 against them at their field. The game was a great opportunity for our coaches to see some of the talent that our younger players had. I had 3 tackles and one assist in the first half of defense (though we were only on defense for a couple series). The second half was used to play some of the other teammates. As far as offense goes, I had a good game with many successful blocks. Three series in a row we were able to score on our first play.

Next weekend we have no game. The week will be used to prepare for our toughest competition, Konawaena. They are ranked number one on the island but I have faith that we will be able to beat them.

Year's Biggest Rivals Defeated

Posted By: Elliot Kastner on 2008-09-14 22:13:42 ESTEmail Story  |  Flag As Spam  |  Comments (0)

On Friday night we played our biggest rivals, Kamehameha School. We won 27- 20 in a great game that demonstrated the strength of our offensive line as well as running backs.
On offensive we were able to drive for over 300 yards total. On defense we held the Warriors to a very low yardage total and scores only on 3 broken plays for long yardage.

I started at offensive center and defensive nose guard. Overall I had a great offensive game. I held my blocks and was able to drive the defensive line back with all of the other lineman on our team.  Defensively I had 4 tackles one of which was solo. They were a heavy throwing team so very few plays came near me. The only time they were on the goal line and tried to run up the center I had 2 tackles in one series. Late in the game when the score was tied 20-20 I also had a punt block which set our offense up on the one yard line going in for a touchdown.

Next week we play Ka'u on friday night.

Despite losing, our defense held up well.  We had 2 mistake plays where they were able to score from far out.  Other than that, our defense held their offense to less yards than our offense. Overall I felt like I played well on defense and offense.
