I found out today that in addition to being named the Lowell High School Varsity golf team MVP that I also was given All Conference Honors for the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 1 golf team as a sophmore. I am really proud of my record this year, playing from the number 1 position, which was 15 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties, with a 37 scoring average. Last year I was named to the all star level, which is one below this honor, as a freshman.

The season is over , and I guess overall it was a good one. I played every one of our mathes, from the number 1 position, and ended up at 15 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties, with a 37 stroke average. Our coach said it was the best record in the MVC conference, which is the strongest in our Division( D1) I was also named MVP of our team. In the two stroke play events that ended our season I did not play anywhere near as well as I had hoped. In the Div. 1 state sectional I shot 78/ 12th place out of a field of 80, but I really did not play well. In the MVC individual event I shot 80. I am usually very strong in stroke play, but I just could not find my game and I struggled in both events. Now I have a month or so before I will start gearing up for next season. I was fitted for a complete new set of clubs, and I will start indoor practice in December with my swing coach, Seth Dichard. I am looking forward to next years tournament season, especially playing in some AJGA and other big qualifiers.Although I improved so much over last year, I know I can keep getting better and more consistent, and I am looking forward to another great golf year. |

Lowell High School golf qualified yesterday for the Division 1 Massachusetts State Sectional Tournament at Beverly CC, Beverly, MA on October 26. I am really happy, as this is our second year in a row and this is only my sophomore year. Coach let me know when I came up 9 that I needed to win my match and the fourball for us to win, and I ended up winning both, with my teammate halving his match, so we won the match and we are going to states again. I have been playing out of the #1 position all season, and my record is 15 wins, 1 loss, 2 ties, with a 37 stroke average. Two matches left, and they are tough ones, but I know I can keep winning. I am also playing in the Merrimack Valley Conference Individual Championship at Long Meadow GC in Lowell, MA on October 22. This is where I won the Lowell Jr. Cities Championship this past summer, so I know I can play well there. I love playing in the big tournaments, so I cant wait to play in both to finish out a great year of golf.

Lowell High School golf update- week 2

I finished my second week of golf matches with a record of 6-1, scoring average of 37, playing now from the number one position for all of my matches this week. I am pretty happy with my play, but as always, there is room for improvement. My one loss was to a golfer who is one of the best in our conference at his home course, who also is in his sophomore year, and who also happens to be a friend of mine, so it was a great match to play. I shot a 37(1 over) at a very tough course(Atkinson CC, NH) which I had never played before, but he just flat out beat me with a 34. I still have one more match against him coming up, and at that point I hope to even things out.

We started high school golf season matches and practices, along with the start of my sophmore year, so I have been very busy for the last few weeks. So far, I am 4-0 , with a 37 scoring average in match play, playing out of the 1/2 position. I can honestly say I dont feel that I have been playing my best yet, so there is plenty of room for improvement. Managing the homework for 4 honors and 1 advanced placement class, school and practice/matches,and work on weekends is alot, but I really love it so its been going well. I will keep updating as often as possible. Glad its raining today so I can get some rest.

Yesterday I won the 2009 Lowell Junior Cities Championship at Long Meadow CC. Not only for my division, 15 & under, but the overall championship, which included the 16-18 division. The Lowell Sun wrote a nice article and said onle a few kids have ever won the overall as 15 year olds. I shot a 1 over 73 and topped the entire field by two shots. My entire round consisted of 17 pars and only one bogey. But that bogey on 16 could have really hurt me because it left me tied even with my nearest competitor, who was playing in my group and birdied the same hole. But on 17 he had a double bogey and I sunk a nice putt for par, while we both had par on 18. It was so much fun to walk up 18 with a big crowd of people clapping and this time I was the winner. I am really proud of how consistent my round was, especially under the pressure of playing with my nearest competitor and knowing the overall championship was at stake. Three of the kids in the 16-18 division are leaving to play college golf this week,at D1 and D2 schools, and I beat all of them. My family was there to watch, along with many people from my home club, Mt. Pleasant, and also my coach from Lowell High School. It was a great day and I enjoyed every minute of it! On Friday I won the Mt. Pleasant CC Junior Club Championship with a score of 78. Not my best, but it was really great to win. I went to the range that night to get ready for the mens club championship on sat/sun. I knew playing against the men would be really tough, but I wanted to do well, even though I am still only 15. On Saturday, I was very focused and all my shot making was excellent. I shot a 74, just 2 back of the leader. That put me in the final group on Sunday for day 2. Of course, there was some ribbing on Sunday about my age, and the fact that I am usually cleaning the mens clubs for tournaments instead of playing in the final group.( I work at the club on weekends) I'm pretty sure they thought I was going to fade away on day 2, but they were wrong. I have played a tough tournament schedule all summer with the best junior golfers in the New England region, and I have done very well. I played just as well on day 2, and was still only 2 shots back until the 15th hole. I had a double and a bogey, but then finished strong with a birdie and a par. I finished in third, with a 75 for the day and a two day score of 149, my lowest ever, and 12 shots better than when I played with the men just this past June.It feels great to know I can really compete with anyone now.

I played in the US Challenge Cup Worlds Series of Junior Golf this past week in Providence, RI. It was the strongest field I have played in this year, with golfers from 10 states and 2 countries. I played really well the first day, with a round of 76. My second day I was not as strong off the tee, missing more fairways and greens, which made it tough to score well. I shot an 82, which gave me a two day score of 158 and 16th place. I was somewhat disappointed, but it was my first big two day invitational so there is plenty of room for improvement. Mr. Adamonis mentioned that I should be getting invitations to the next two invitationals, which are at Bethpage Red and Pinehills in Plymouth, MA. this fall, which are two great courses I am excited to play.

I played in the US Challenge Cups Maplegate Open @ Maplegate CC this past Monday. I shot a 79, which was good enough for 5th place. It was not , however, good enough for me. I was not playing bad, but every part of my game was just a little off, so the results were not what I was looking for. Coach said if 79 is your bad day you are doing pretty good as a 15 year old. I understand what he is saying but I really want to be more consistent. When I started playing in the Challenge Cup, and also the state and regional events, I knew the competition was much harder and the fields larger than on the tour I used to play(NEPGA) but I know that is how I will get better. And I am having a really good year, all top 10's in the big events, so I will keep working and I know I am moving in the right direction.

Great Finish At Massachusetts Junior Amatuer Championship

I played in the Massachusetts Junior Amateur State Championship this week. The first two days I struggled with some swing issues and shot 85/85 which I was not happy with. It was a very tough course(FraminghamCC- 73.7/136) and my scores were good enough for me to make the cut down to 20 players for the championship round. I went to the range after day 2 and fixed what was wrong with my swing so I was confident going into the last round that I could come back and make a strong showing. I started in 16th place on day 3, and we played the course all the way from the back, about 6700 yds. My swing was in great shape, and as always my short game was excellent as was my putting. I shot a 76, a huge improvement over the first two days, and tied the leader for the best score of the day. I placed 7th, for a 54 hole score of 246, which I was very happy about. I knew I was probably to far out to win, but I didn't give up, and I was proud of myself for coming back strong. There is still a lot of golf left this summer and fall, and I am still improving, so I cant wait for my next tournament. |
