The Western Washington University hitting clinic was great, I got a chance to reconnect with the coaches their. I picked up some new techniques, which I'll be working on over the winter. I was really on the ball and crushing it. The Western coaches were impressed and said they will be contacting me in the near future. Not a bad days work.

The last tournament of Fall

Posted By: Amanda Flores on 2009-11-02 13:51:30 ESTEmail Story  |  Flag As Spam  |  Comments (0)

We just finished play in the Surf City Early Thanksgiving tournament, the last tournament of the year. I had a strong finish with 2 home runs and hitting .500 for the tourney. I played 3rd and SS and we finished 2 and 5 with 4 losses in close games, losing by 1 or 2 runs. I wish we had one more tournament to play; we’re gelling as a team and close to being where we want to be.

Recommendation

I have had the honor of working with Amanda Flores. This letter goes beyond the scope of Amanda as a player, but as an individual as well.   Though I have only known her for a short time, I am able to pick up on the key principals that a student / Athlete needs to possess in order to successful at the next level.

While Amanda is considerably a strong player you will notice that she not only understands her role on the field as a team player, but as a player that can be counted on for follow-through. This is a hard attribute to achieve. I had the great opportunity to have her attend my 18 Softball Select team tryout and though new to the squad and girls on my team, she quickly picked up the routine and was able to work into the mix. She is a quick learner and willing to work. Though she did not play for my team this year as I had to fold my program, she was able to find a great team to play on.

Amanda has what I would consider great speed for a player of her age and is very agile. As a coach you want your power hitter to not only reach bases safely, but also want to see if they are able to challenge their base hit or a hit in the gap and turn into a double. Amanda is able to do this with no hesitation. Amanda has great footwork and works hard to work on her first step and improve on mechanics that need polishing. What’s to Say about her offense, well, frankly she has great power and is able to go the distance against many pitchers. While hitting with a batting average of .495 and a slugging percentage of .903 I think the numbers speak for themselves. She has good discipline and can go deep in the count eventually as a successful base hit or walk.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt, I believe Amanda has the ability to be successful at a D1 institution or in a D2 Program. She has the will to work hard and perfect her craft. As third basemen, it is important to be agile and quick.  She also has the knowledge in choosing the difference between rushing a throw and making sure of the out. This is why I feel I can support Amanda and provide her with this letter of recommendation. I know she will excel in and provide to any softball program she decides to play for.

Sincerely,

UW High School Elite Camp

The UW high school elite camp was a great experience; there were players from all over the state and out of state Texas, Florida, California and Oklahoma. We went through the typical UW work out from warm ups and conditioning, infield, outfield and hitting for 3 hours working with current UW players and staff including the national player of the year Danielle Lawrie. The last hour was a live game between the 24 campers, 12 to a team. I went 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored once but end up on the losing end of a 4 to 3 game.

It was a great day of softball and I truly felt privileged to be a part of it.

ALL-COUNTY SOFTBALL: All-Whatcom County team

- THE BELLINGHAM HERALD
AMANDA FLORES
School: Ferndale
Year: Junior
Position: Third base

What she did: Flores was one of the most pitched around players in the conference, taking 23 walks while getting hit four times ... Despite rarely seeing good pitches to hit she still had 30 RBI and a .451 batting average ... She also had an on-base percentage of .651 and a slugging percentage of .941 ... During the regular season she had seven triples and  two home run ... Hit a grand slam at the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament ... Scored 25 runs.

Coach's quote: "Amanda is very intimidating at third base. She can cover ground and has a rocket throw. As a team captain she led our team at the plate and was voted our teams most valuable and most inspirational player by her teammates." - Holly Hilton
