Mountain View 44, Battle Ground 38 — Steady play carried the Thunder in the first round of the 4A Greater St. Helens League district playoffs.
The Thunder used a solid first quarter to gain the lead, then made free throws late to hold off the Tigers.
Mountain View (7-14) will face Kelso at 6 p.m. on Friday at Heritage High School. Battle Ground’s season is over.
Caitlynn Patterson had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Thunder. She was 4 for 4 from the foul line on a night when Mountain View went 14 for 21 in the game, including 8 of 10 in the fourth quarter.
A 13-6 first quarter set the tone. Battle Ground (8-13) was never closer than two points the rest of the way.
“A great first quarter, “ Mountain View coach Greg Lehr-Erbele said. “Probably our best quarter of the year. We scored and executed, and didn’t turn over the ball.”
