PALMETTO RIDGE The Bears like to pound the ball behind a tough, veteran offensive line. That’s no secret.
But they can get yards through the air, too.
New quarterback Mike Pinter, who took over the starting job two weeks ago, was 16-of-33 for 238 yards as Palmetto Ridge tried to play catch-up in a 49-19 loss to Naples High on Friday night, with Sean Smikle his favorite target.
Smikle, the offense’s only returning starter at a skill position, made six grabs for 165 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-6 senior now has four scoring catches this season, including a 19-yard grab in an opening 35-7 victory over Golden Gate.
