For the past 5 years the board of Ed. has been pounded by petitions and board meetings with so many swimmers and parents they didn't have enough room for the people who showed up.

The board said that the reason for no Swim teams is that there are no pools willing to give up practice time, who will coach, who will pay for equipment.

There are at least 10 indoor facilities in the area that HC BOED could talk to. But they have only talked to 2 pools and one refuses because it wouldn't be able to fit in practice schedules.

The only thing HC BOED gives the swimmers is a once a year all county meet at the local community college. It is poorly run, over crowded, the pool two years ago was over 90 degrees (im not kidding), this meet is also a you want to swim? sign up (Schools can show up with 75 kids that can only swim 25yds), The teams are not sponsored in any way by Howard County, there are no formal if any team practices.

It upsets me that by the time i graduate in 2010 there will not be any swim team. Thus meaning I will get no scouting unless it comes from another team not related to schools.

What are your opinions?
