Dustin Holland said he just wanted to be a hero. After Friday night, the littlest Northview Cougar football player is one.
Then the Cougars turned it over to the 5-foot-3, 115-pound Holland, a back-up who was kicking because of an injury to the starter. The little kid with the green shoes belted the extra point straight down the middle, providing the Cougars with the difference in a 7-6 win over Robert E. Lee at Rip Hewes Stadium. “It’s exhilarating,” Holland said of the winning extra-point. “It feels like I just won the Super Bowl.”
All the time Northview was moving down the field, Holland was preparing for his extra point. Holland learned he was going to kick in pregame after starter Ryan Allis couldn’t go because of a pulled quad muscle. “I was thinking I am going to have to kick it,” Holland said. “I was going to have to make this to win the game for them. I just wanted to be a hero.” After Northview scored, it was Holland’s turn. “I was really nervous,” Holland said. “My adrenaline was pumping so much.” It didn’t affect him as he booted the extra point with a swift kick of his right green shoe. The 10th grader stepped up for us.” said BJ Chitty
