After what I thought was one of the best meets of my life I topped it off with an even better one. On wednesday night I participated in the opening day festivities and swam second in the B 400 free relay for Team Illinois. I split 55.9 and we placed 10th. On Thursday I began with a best time in the 100 free swimming a 55.83, and entering finals seeded 23rd. That night I also had the 800 free where I was seeded first, I swam one of the best races of my life, and out touched my competitor by 17 hundreths of a second, splitting a 1:01 for my last hundred, breaking the 15-16 and open meet record in the event by 3 seconds. I then swam finals of the 100 free less than 10 minutes later and went another best, placing 19th with a 55.62. The next day I swam too preliminary swims going a best time in my "fun" event, the 200 back and going 2:19.03. I then cruised into the 400 final ranked first with a 4:13.07. That night I had a surprisingly bad backstroke swim but managed to come back and place a close 2nd in the 400 free with a 4:10.45. On saturday I had only the 200 free, and I cruised prelims to place 7th in finals with a 2:00.64. That night, swimming in the outside lane I took it out fast and came within .05 of my best, clocking in at 1:58.97. Sunday I swam on the 200 medley relay swimming backstroke, and that night on the 5th night of competition swam an exhausted 1500, holding off second place by .23 and winning the event. Team Illinois won the meet by a landslide and I placed 5th for mens high point. |
