The Niagara University Division ACHA Hockey team is about to enter another season.
The players are starting to filter back on campus and the coaching staff is hard at work preparing for the upcoming season.
As the coaches hit the road and begin to make contacts with potential recruits for the 2009-2010 season the most commonly asked question is "why play for Niagara?"
The answers are quite easy.
On Campus, Multi-Million Dollar Ice Complex within walking distance of all dorms apartments. Niagara is one of only a handful of ACHA programs to have an on campus rink!
Dwyer Arena is home to the BUFFALO SABRES "Rookie and Prospect Camp". The Buffalo Sabres recently moved their camp to Dwyer due to its tremendous accommodations

The Niagara University ACHA Hockey team is a member of the Division 1 American Collegiate Hockey Association . The ACHA Division 1 is comprised of 58 teams spanning the entire nation. ACHA Hockey is quickly becoming the best options for highly skilled players from top Prep School or Junior organizations who are looking to continue their hockey careers and obtain a high quality education
Niagara ACHA Hockey is not a club sport. Our team is run similarly to any NCAA Div 1 or Div 3 team. Our national travel schedule, intense on and off ice work ethic, and dedication is what have made our program a top choice for recruits.
The Niagara University ACHA team has had three players offered pro contracts after graduation. Mario Nucci, Rick Feroni, and Mike Novosad have represented not only the University but the Purple Eagles hockey team admirably at the professional level.
Niagara plays its entire home schedule at Dwyer Arena located on the campus of Niagara University. Our dedicated locker room, state of the art facilities, and top notch scheduling makes Niagara hockey a great option for players looking to continue to play hockey in college.
The '08-'09Purple Eagles are poised to stake their claim as one of the countries elite programs.
The Purple Eagles ACHA team plays typically 35 games per season. Along with league play the Eagles travel throughout the country to take on other top notch programs in the ACHA. In the past Niagara has traveled to Michigan, St. Louis, the United States Naval Academy, Penn State (State College, Pa), Stony Brook, Arizona State University, Ohio University ,West Virginia University, University of Delaware, and Slippery Rock University to name a few.
Niagara's league opponents hail from the ECHL. The ECHL is comprised of University of Buffalo, University of Rochester, Syracuse University, Robert Morris University (PA), and Mercyhurst College.
