Scott Simon was the story, however: his 83 is the lowest round by any member since yours truly carded the same number at the end of August at Five Ponds last season. Simon was in the fairway most of the day; swinging easy from the box with his driver and getting himself into a rhythm. And, although his tee shot on #1 went a bit wayward, it’s obvious from the video that his lines were tight. Watch the hip turn early in the swing, the balance to the front and the head-cock that clears room for his left shoulder. Kid’s got game, boys. Maybe that 10-stroke drop in handicap won’t matter so much after all.

Your grandad's awfully proud of you, Scotty... that's obvious when he's calling me at 10:30 in the evening to tell me about the +3 you put up at Spring Hollow. Congrats, young man... I look forward to playing our round together early Sunday at Island Green. - Brian
