Softball Fielding Positions

Over my ten plus years of playing softball, I have at one time or another played every position, yes even pitcher.  I was too young to understand all the aspects of pitching, by age twelve I realized that I much rather be on the receiving end of the pitches, soon a catcher was born.

Although catching is my passion, I also love playing center field and second base.  It is these three positions where the best in me comes out.  Each position offers action unique to the game and I thrive on what each position has to offer.

Catching gives me the challange of trying to outsmart the batter, getting my pitcher to hit her spots.  Then there is the excitement of picking off a runner at first or third base and nailing the runners that try to steal a base on me.  Also, the adrienline of seeing a runner coming around third base heading full steam towards me as I await the throw from the field.

Second base gives me the thrill of diving for a shot up the middle and being able to throw the runner out at first.  Or running down a foul ball behind first base for an out.

Centerfield allows me to take charge of the shots into the gap or making a nice catch.  And getting the chance to throw a runner out trying to advance on a hit is exciting.

The action these three positions present is why I enjoy the game of softball so much.
