Does handicap level predict short game proficiency?

 Procedure

Participants will be participating in a short game proficiency test. Participants will learn how they fared compared to other players at their handicap level.

They will come to show off their ability, or to see if it is as bad as they thought.
It can only serve them well to know how good they really are in this vital part of the game. The procedure consists of forty five short game shots, and roughly takes thirty minutes. The participant will be hitting to three different locations on the green. There are also three different areas that they hit from.

The locations on the green include 7 yards onto the green, 14 yards onto the green, and 21 yards onto the green. The participant will hit five shots to each from 2 yards off the green; the next fifteen shots are from 5 yards off the green. Finally the last fifteen shots are from 10 yards off the green.

Handicap vs. Average Distance

The USGA Handicap Index Formula

"The USGA Handicap Index Formula is based on the best handicap differentials in a player’s scoring record.

If a player’s scoring record contains 20 or more scores, the best 10 handicap differentials of the most recent 20 scores are used to calculate the USGA Handicap Index.

The percentage of scores used in a scoring record decreases from the maximum of the best 50 percent as the number of scores in the scoring record decreases.

Continued…

If the scoring record contains 9 or 10 scores, only the best three scores (30 to 33 percent) in the scoring record will be used. Thus, the accuracy of a player’s Handicap Index is directly proportional to the number of acceptable scores posted.

Problem

Does handicap level predict short game proficiency?

Hypothesis:

Handicap level will predict a player’s short game proficiency.

Test Hypothesis:

Players hit five shots to three hole-locations from three different distances off of the green. The player’s median ball distance from the hole is recorded in inches.
