June turned out to be a tough month for me!
(1) I skipped the USA Potomac Valley Preliminary meet because I wanted more time to prepare for the US Paralympic Trials. (2) The day before leaving for the US Paralympic Trials, I caught a "Charlie Horse" in my right calf muscle that caused pain all the way to my hip. A massage therapist told me that my potassium level had dropped causing my muscle to cramp up and it slightly strain. This strain had a major affect on my performance. I managed to run a grueling and disappointing 2:07 in the 800m dash. So, I did not make the team for the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing (Sept. 2008). (3) I decided to rest my leg for one full week. Therefore, I skipped the Nike Outdoor Nationals. My parents still let me go to the meet. (4) I started practicing this past Tuesday to prepare for todays AAU Regional Championships in Philadelphia. This race went from great to big bust! I led the race through the 400m at 57 and then the 600m at 1:26. Then the wall came crashing on my back. I managed a 2:03 and next to last in my heat. My dad told me that it was a great after coming back from an injury.
July 7-10, I travel to Windsor Canada with the US Paralypic Team to participate in a track & field training camp. This should be an awesome opportunity to learn and train with other blind, visually impaired, and ambulatory athletes.

PS - I am still waiting to hear from the admissions office from Tennessee State University. If this doesn't come through, then I will be running for Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland. |
