The Port MacQuarie and Syndey tour to Australia was awesome. The 2 events- the Pacific Coast Slam and the Sydney Cup-were excellent. The refereeing and overall high level of play was outstanding.
At the Sydney Cup, i played really well. Obviously, I had a tough job been the only Point Guard in the team capable of coping with the defensive pressure that the 'Aussie' players apply. In the first game at the Sydeny Cup we played New Zealand North, who had a NZ Junior Tall Black, Duane Bailey. Luckily, we got him into foul trouble and he had to sit out alot. He still played an awesome game. In the game against Norths, I really tried to be aggressive. I went to the Free Throw Line 13 times! And made 11 of those. I ended up with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals. I shot 6/17 from FG, which i thought was dissappointing. I mean, that's only like 35 %!
In the 2nd game, we were playing the local Sydney team, Penrith. We were really sluggish in this game, with the temperature taking affect. I really took over offensively and defensively. Penrith played a zone defense which was good, because it created the holes for my penetration. My finishing here was much better and stronger(I only went to free throw line 5 times) I ended up with 26 points and 14 rebounds. I am only 6"1, but i have a really good sense of where the ball will land off the rim. We ended up winning by like 6 or 7. I felt that, through the first 2 games, i had really earned the respect of other coaches here and scouts/spectators.
The 3rd and final game of the Syndey Cup was between us and New Zealand Souths. We knew that if we won this, we would be the supreme team of NZ going into the Pacific Coast Slam. The Souths, however, were and really good team. Once again, i played well, ending up with 25 points on a high shooting %. I also had 8 or so boards, which was good. However, i was dissappointed to lose, because i felt we had a great chance to snatch the win
The Sydney Cup was a real highlight of the tour. I averaged 26 points and 10.6 Rebounds per game. The main highlight however was the 2 wins.
