Brock Hyder could not have picked a better time to hit the first home run in his high school career. With Bishop Kelly trailing Skyview 3-2 and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth in the 4A state championship game, the junior first baseman sent David Nicodemus’ 1-0 pitch over the right-field wall for a 6-3 lead. His first home run of his high school career - and it's a grand slam. The Knights (25-5) got to Nicodemus in the first inning, with a David Nathan double to left scoring both runs. The sophomore pitcher settled in after that, however, and Skyview started to pick away at Bishop Kelly’s lead. We wanted State, and we got it! It is a great feeling to be able to leave your senior year and go out as State Champs! |
