It was a first year team, after years without a program, against one of the state's most successful programs. And Roscoe, that new team, saw more than it wanted to against Chapel Field, who came home from the 607 area code, with a 21-0 victory after just five innings of play-limited by the 15-0 rule after five. The Lady Lions scored nine runs by the end of the second inning and then added 11 more through the next three innings. "They will have some lumps and bumps, but so did we" said Coach Bill Spanjer, Jr, following the game. "We have been that other team in past years" Chapel Field, the reigning Class D champs, battered Roscoe with sharply hit balls, many of which that were dropped or mis thrown when played. Grace Hodges went 2-2, including a very hard hit home run in the second inning. "That was probably my best hit so far (this year)" said Hodges.Hodges said she's had a hard to focusing at the plate this year--but felt comfortable against Roscoe. "I have to start focusing better in the games" she said. Lyndi Fielitz and Michelle Larson each had three hits and Victoria Billman went 2-2 as Chapel Field pounded out 13 hits. Alyssa Brognano gave up two hits and struck out nine for Chapel Field. Chapel Field remained perfect for the season improving 7-0. Roscoe dropped to 0-6. --Bond Brundgard Wallkill Valley Times 4/30/08
