Dandy Don’s Preseason Top Prospects
in Louisiana Class of 2009
Updated 4/23/08
1. Rueben Randle, WR, 6'3", 200, Bastrop. Randle is one of the most outstanding players to come out of Louisiana in the last 10-12 years. Randle will likely play wide receiver in college but will play quarterback at Bastrop in 2008, will put up huge numbers and will be recruited by a lot of schools to play quarterback. Randle is so good that he should be rated a six-star player.
2. Chris Davenport, DL, 6'4", 300, Mansfield. Naming Louisiana's No. 1 prospect was not hard to do but naming the number two prospect was very hard because any of my top seven are deserving of the honor. Davenport is my No. 2 ranked prospect because of his upside. He will likely play defensive tackle in college but has the speed to play defensive end and the foot work and balance to play offensive left tackle.
3. Eddie Lacy, RB, 6'2", 205, 4.5, Dutchtown. Lacy is one of eight, yes I said eight, in-state running backs who will be national recruits for the 2009 signing class. Lacy is a complete running back who can run over linebackers and has the speed to outrun defensive backs. The only possible downside to Lacy is academics.
4. Michael Ford, RB, 5'10", 210, 4.4, Leesville. Ford had a great sophomore season at Leesville high school that caught the eyes of schools nation wide. Ford only played in three games as a junior because of a broken collar bone but is fully recovered and will be back at full speed for the 2008 season. Les Miles, Nick Saban and several coaches recently visited Leesville high school to visit with Ford and Coach Williams. Ford really likes LSU and I expect to see him wearing Purple and Gold in 2009.
5. Chris Faulk, OL, 6'5", 290, Northshore in Slidell. Faulk attended the U.S.A. Army junior camp in San Antonio, Texas and was the talk of the camp. Faulk is a very physical offensive lineman and enjoys putting pancake blocks on defensive linemen. Faulk is very high on LSU and I believe that he will be wearing purple and gold the next four years at LSU.
6. Carneal Ainsworth, OL, 6'4", 298, Parkview Baptist. I kept going back and forth on Ainsworth and Faulk for number five and six. Ainsworth missed most of the 2007 season with a leg injury but is back at full speed and should have a great senior season. Ainsworth bleeds purple and gold.
7. Darrington Sentimore, DT, 6'3", 270, Destrehan. I saw Darrington Sentimore play three times in 2007 and each time I was more impressed. Sentimore has 4.6 speed which allows him to make tackles from sideline to sideline. He is a fun player to watch.
8. Kenny Bell, WR, 6'1", 185, 4.4, Rayville. Coach Barton from Rayville told me that Bell is one of the most talented players he has ever coached and because of his speed he often makes catches 15 yards away from defensive backs trying to cover him. Barton told me that he expects Bell to have several offers from major colleges before this school season is complete.
9. Janzen Jackson, DB, 6'1", 185, 4.4, Carencro. Jackson may be the best man-to-man cover cornerback in the state in 2008. Jackson will be very highly recruited according to his head coach Lance Guidry.
10. Barkevious Mingo, LB, 6'5", 212, 4.55, West Monroe. Mingo has only played one year of football and made first team All-State. Mingo could grow into a defensive end in college.
11.Ricky Johnson, WR, 6'1", 4.4, 180, Carencro. Johnson plays quarterback for Coach Guidry's Golden Bears but is projected to play wide receiver in college. Johnson will be a national recruit.
12. Tahj Jones, LB, 6'2 1/2", 200, 4.48, Sulphur. Jones has all the tools to be a great college linebacker.
13. Kelvin York, (RB, 6'1", 210, 4.5), Dutchtown. York is a bruising type running back and is very hard to tackle in open field.
14. Julius Warmsley, DE/LB, 6'3", 230, 4.65, ST Michael's, Baton Rouge. Warmsley plays the game with a lot of energy and has a chance to be a great college football player.
15. Alex Singleton, RB/LB, 6'2", 215, 4.55, East ST John. Singleton is a very physical, hard-nosed down-hill runner that will be highly recruited. The only downside to Singleton is that he does not have great speed.
15. (tie). Joshua Downs, (DL, 6'2", 260, 4.8), Bastrop. Down has great quickness and is a man. I might be moving Downs up before the start of the 2008 high school season.
16. Rico Jones, QB/ATH, 6'1", 210, 4.5, John Ehret. I have seen Jones play two time and he has great skills as a passer and runner. Jones will make someone a great college football player.
17.Montrell Connor (RB, 6'2", 210, 4.45), Ouachita. Connors is one of several big-time in-state running back prospects for the class of 2009. Connors is big and fast and is a down hill runner.
18. Elon Grinstead, (WR, 6'2", 190, 4.55), Tioga. Grinstead has big hands and is a great possession receiver. Grinstead will play division 1-A football, in my opinion.
19. DeQuinta Jones, (DT), 6'2", 265, Bastrop. Little under-sized but has great speed and outstanding work habits.
20. Deon Anthony, (QB/ATH, 6'0", 190, 4.55), Westgate. Anthony would be a perfect fit for a school that features a running quarterback, or he could play cornerback in college.
20. (tie) Travante Stallworth, (ATH), 5'10", 180, Leesville. One of the fastest players in the state. Great one-on-one coverage skills.
21. Kenny Cain, (RB/LB, 6'2", 195), John Curtis. Outstanding athlete, could play LB or RB in college.
22. Robert Walker, (RB), 5'9", 175, Mamou. Great moves, hard to tackle. Has the skills to play at a major college level. 4.4 speed.
23. D.J. Banks, (ATH, 5'10", 180, 4.45), West Monroe. Banks will likely play slot back in college and as a kick returner.
24. Deante Triplett, (RB), 5'10", 210, John Ehret. Great speed. Also capable of playing several positions.
24. (tie) Jonathan Stewart (LB, 6'4", 220).
25. Vincent Collins, (RB, 6'1", 205, 4.45), Westlake. Collins is a Jacob Hester-type, hard-nosed player who runs down hill.
25. (tie) Jordan James, (WR), 6'3", 190, STM. Great speed with good hands.
26. Wes Luquette, (QB, 6'1" 208), Newman. Luquette has a very accurate arm.
27. Michael Lamothe (LB, 6'3", 215, 4.65), New Iberia. Lamothe is a very smart player and loves to play the game. He needs to get his forty time down to 4.6 to play linebacker in college.
28. Terrance Johnson (ATH, 6'2", 180, 4.5), Patterson. Johnson will likely play wide receiver in college and will be highly recruited.
29. Tyler Glynn (DB, 6'1", 180, 4.4), West Monroe. Glynn has great speed and cover skills as a cornerback. I might have to move Glynn up a few spots after Spring football is over. He has SEC-type skills.
30. (tie) Cerderrick Tyson, (RB, 4.4, 5'8", 180), Evangel. Tyson is one of eight big-time running back propsects in the state. Tyson reminds me of former LSU player Sklor Green.
30. (tie) Joey Fontana, (OL), 6'4", 280, Brother Martin. Great foot speed and balance.
31. Kenderick Washington (DE), 6’7”, 250, Huntington/Shreve.
31. (tie) Andrew Hebert, (TE/LB), 6'2", 200, Teurlings
