Pembroke Pines - The power pitching of junior Lauren Sewell and timely hitting from the heart of the lineup proved to be enough as Pembroke Pines Charter defeated Cooper City 4-2 to win the Speedball Softball Tournament gold division championship game Saturday at Silver Lakes Park.

The Jagguars (11-0) won four games over two days and will next head to Huntington Beach, Calif., to participate in the Nike Faster to First National Tournament.

Senior right fielder Alicia Sisco, senior first baseman Audrey Broyles and sophomore designated player Gina Bondarenko batted third through fifth in the lineup and went a combined 6 for 10 while scoring and driving in all four runs.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Sisco had a critical at-bat when she drew a 3-2 count and fouled off three pitches before drawing a walk. She then stole second and scored on a single by Broyles.

Bondarenko followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Jaguars a 2-1 lead.

In the sixth, the trio strung together a single and a pair of hard-hit doubles to right-center field to give the Jaguars two insurance runs.

It was plenty for Sewell. After allowing a run on a walk, single and fielder's choice in the first inning, she settled in to retire 14 of the next 15 batters.

Sewell finished with 11 strikeouts to improve to 5-0 on the season.

The Cowboys (8-3) were led by junior catcher Stormi Grzybek, who had an RBI single, and senior shortstop Laura Fountain, who scored the first run.
