Well, nothing like another successful season. New state cuts, Speedo cuts, even thoughts of a berth at NCSA Junior Nationals, this was quite a season. And, as I hoped would happen, I greatly surpassed all of my pre-season goals (gee, I need to start making things a little harder).
Here's a goals recap:
Qualify in the top 16 for WIAA State: What is there to say. I wanted to be in the second heat, but I wasn't. That's because I managed to pull off a seventh-place seed, and swim to a seventh-place overall finish. This blows my previous goal for next year out of the water: just to be in the final heat at state. Maybe I'll set my sights on an individual championship next year...
Qualify for Speedo Sectionals: Again, not as lofty of a goal as I anticipated. After all, I was able to get my Speedo cut in the 100 breast in a mid-season, non-rest meet at Fond Du Lac. Furthermore, I even got my best time low enough to have a horrendous (nearly 1 second add) race in the 100 breast in prelims, but still make it back in finals. Not only that, but I also managed to go under the qualifying time twice for the 50 free as well.
Maintain my best times: Before the high school season began, I was shaved and tapered for the Toyota Grand Prix in Minneapolis, MN. I expected my times at that meet to be best times, and they were. Although, I also anticipated that I would be unable to break those best times until the end of the high school season. WRONG!! I continually went under those times, and the times thereafter, throughout the high school season. In fact, I would be willing to say that in all meets (duals excluded) I was either right on or under my best time in all events. Heck, over the course of the season, even my 50 times dropped by nearly a second, both in the freestyle (.8 seconds) and the breaststroke (1+ seconds, relay split).
Break Records: I had more of this than I anticipated as well, unfortunately none were individually. Where do I begin. Well, I still have the meet record at the Hartford Varsity Relays meet in the 100 Freestyle Relay, that is from last year. Oh, yeah. I was on the meet-record setting 100 Medley Relay team this year (what a relay; I didn't even do breast). And then there is the conference record that we set in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Don't let me forget the most important of all, the school record in the 200 Medley Relay; that one even got a steak dinner, courtesy of coach. A little more than I bargained for in this section as well.
That about covers it. And about the post-season: I don't think I'm going to mind the time off. After all, I think the three-week break will be just as good for me mentally as it is physically. Plus, it will give me a chance to regroup my thoughts and set some goals for next season, which you can keep an eye out for in the next few weeks. The only activity I plan on doing: core and stretching. Oooh. Until my next post, this is T. Remms saying, see ya... |
