I have been playing golf for almost 7 years, however I didn't play competitively until 3 years ago, and didn't take it seriously until this past summer (2007). Both of my parents and my twin brother golf, so my mom gave me the ultimatatum, play golf or play golf lol. As a freshman I shot scores in the mid to low 50s and as a sophomore shot hight 40s for 9 holes. This past season however, I managed to lower my competition average to a 46, and my regular average to a 44. Surprisingly I played varsity consistently as both a freshman and junior, and for the first half of my sophomore season. I think what really motivated me to pursue golf as more than just a game, is the talented and amazing group of girls on my team. This past season there was only 1 senior- Haley Sipe 3 juniors Lauren Bond, Darcy White, and myself (Melissa Sharpe) 3 sophomores- Cassie Rushing, Ashleigh Rushing, Campbell Hunt (These girls were the main golfers who played varsity however there are 6 others.) These girls began playing as freshman with averages in the 30s and low 40s, and it seemed impossible to compete with them. Actually having such a wonderful team has been quite a blessing, a lot of fun, and given me a ton of opportunities. This year our school placed 2nd in State, 1st in Regionals, 1st in Sectionals, and 1st in Conference. In addition all six of us placed at Conference. It was an amazing year that will continue next year as well! |
