I was selected as the Captain of the bowling team. Our girls won the State championship last year. The Men weren't as good. This year we have a strong Men's team. I played basketball last year. We just won a meet in Topeka. Winning by 80 pins. I shocked alot of people because I am known as a baseball and football player. I also shocked folks by not playing basketball this year. I needed more time to train for the sports that I am being recruited in (football & Baseball). Anyway, here is a copy of todays Leavenworth Times: Leavenworth High men's bowling team earns first-place finishFrom Staff Reports Published: Wednesday, January 16, 2008 12:26 AM CST E-mail this story | Print this page
TOPEKA — Michael Cook recorded the high series with a 703 and the LeavenworthHigh School men’s bowling team claimed a first-place (4-0) finish against Bishop Miege, Manhattan, Topeka and Topeka West on Tuesday.
Will Brown bowled a 623 to help lead the Pioneers to victory.
“The men’s team is really stepping up — and we are not even at our full strength,” Leavenworth coach Shad Langfoss. “Michael Cook put on another great day.”
Geoff Bradbeer recorded a 511 series. Daniel Wranich and Ben Stevenson bowled 451 each. Tyler Godfrey produced a 418 series.
The Lady Pioneers finished in fourth place, going 1-3 against the field.
Shanice Brown led the Leavenworth women with a 443 set.
Leavenworth’s JV boys claimed a second-place (3-1) finish, led by Nick Shade’s 496 series. O.J. Hilderbrandt bowled a 451.
Leavenworth’s JV girls also produced a second-place (3-1) finish, led by Rebecca Turner’s 466 series. Janae Frasier bowled a 391.
“Overall, it was a good day,” Langfoss said. “We still have a lot of season left, so I am expecting great things from each of my bowlers.” Last weeks KC Star article on our team: Pioneers lose top girls bowlerSource: The StarThe Leavenworth girls bowling team was dealt a big loss before its season — and its state championship defense — could even begin.Cynthia Veney, who won the Kansas 6A girls state championship and led the Pioneers to the team title last season, will not be part of the championship defense. Leavenworth bowling coach Shad Langfoss said he learned in November that Veney’s mother was being relocated to Texas.“That hurts us quite a bit,” Langfoss said.Veney won the state championship with a 697 series last season. She also won Sunflower League and regional championships. The Pioneers return only two key contributors from their championship squad. Sophomore Shanice Brown, who placed fourth at state last season, is one of the top returning bowlers in the area. Junior Brandi Kendall, who placed 25th at state, also returns. But Leavenworth will need others to emerge for the team to be a postseason factor again this year.“Nothing is ever impossible, but losing the No. 1 bowler in the state …,” Langfoss said, putting the situation in perspective. “Without Cynthia, it’s going to be a tough road for us.”The Leavenworth boys, on the other hand, welcome a significant addition this year. Senior Will Brown, who previously spent the winter sports season playing basketball, has joined the bowling squad.Langfoss said Brown is averaging 196 since practices began earlier this month.
congrats william, how's the college searching going? I'm going to be visiting William Jewell Monday 1/28, so I will swing by USM in Leavenworth on Sunday to take a look. good luck Jacob
Jacob, It has been really busy. I am still getting contacted by football teams. I am starting to do more visits. The recruitmenty process in baseball is going extremely well. I have heard from quite a few D1 schools. UAB has really shown interest. The coach stays in contact with me. I want to do a camp or two but am having a hard time fitting it in. As far as the NAIA schools in football, I am scheduled to visit USM,Sterling, and Ottawa. I was just contacted by D2 National Champion, Valdosta State and have been being recruited by JUCO national Champ, Butler County. God is blessing me greatly. I am so thankful to have options. The stress is starting to build up because I know that I am getting really close to decision time.
