Lake hockey team takes a holiday after split

The Clear Lake High School ice hockey team split two contests last weekend, losing to Cy-Fair 3-2 Friday night before rallying to defeat Clements 4-1 on Sunday. Clear Lake is now 6-2-1 going into the holiday break.

Cy-Fair put Lake on the back foot early Friday, scoring just 18 seconds into the game. Although Lake had beaten Cy-Fair earlier in the year, the Falcon's formidable offense sputtered this time around. Tyler King's two unassisted goals in the second period gave the Falcons hope, leaving the game tied going into the third period. However, Cy-Fair scored their third with 5:07 left in the game, and Clear Lake's desperate attempts to find an equalizer came up short.

Justin Ernst and goalie Ryan Kenefic rallied the Falcons Sunday night to a 4-1 victory over Clements. Kenefic made 32 saves, including 14 in the third period. Ernst figured in all four Lake goals, scoring once and assisting on the other three.
