Lacrosse In New Zealand

The sport of lacrosse is small in New Zealand (the small country near Australia) however we are growing each year. Just this year we hosted our first international tournament. The 2007 ASPACS (Asia Pacific Championships). I was lucky enough to play for the New Zealand side, even though I had only picked up a stick 6 months before.   The tournament went well for the team and my self. I think i learnt more in the 7 days of the tournament then I did my first 6 months of lacrosse. Been only 16 at the time it was an eye-opening experance.

The club side of lacrosse here is small, but lively. Each game in the club compition is hotly contested.  Players skill range from those who have been playing since lacrosse was started in New Zealand in 2003 to people who have only picked up a stick a week ago.

As the sport continues to grow here, it is my hope that I might be able to get some experance playing lacrosse in differnt countries or get a scholarship once I leave school at the end of the year.  It is my hope to play in countries where lacrosse has really become a big sport and the skill level is very high.

So if you have any contacts or ideas for playing lacrosse overseas, or even better if you have an offer, please contact me!
