| 6 Central Catholic football players make Corn Belt all-star teamBy Pantagraph staff After completing an undefeated regular season and placing second in Class 4A, the Central Catholic High School football team landed six players on the Corn Belt Conference all-star team announced Sunday.
Saints senior center Zach Eyre and junior tackle Joe Ring, both unanimous selections, joined senior running back Ryan Waldron in representing Central Catholic on the first-team offense. University High senior Sean Hastings and Mahomet-Seymour junior Andrew Brewer — the only other junior on the first-team offense — accompanied Waldron at running back.
Joining Eyre and Ring on the offensive line were Pontiac tackle Nathan Weber, Eureka guard Stephen Brewer and Mahomet teammates Andrew Griffeth at guard and Jim Johnston at tight end.
Eureka’s Wes Schmidgall was selected at wide receiver, while Rochester quarterback Wil Lunt and wide receiver Logan Butler joined Eyre and Ring as unanimous choices.
Eyre, Ring and junior end Dylan Johnson represented the Saints on the defensive line. Waldron was chosen as a linebacker, while junior Blake Rave was picked as a defensive back.
Weber and Olympia senior end Colt Stroud rounded out the defensive line. Pontiac senior Alex Smith and Mahomet senior Jonathon McComb joined Waldron at linebacker. U High senior Ben Hall, Eureka senior Brian Schrock, Pontiac junior Michael Panno and Rochester senior Ben Brubaker completed the secondary.
Saints senior Michael Fenger was a unanimous choice as kicker. Pontiac’s Phil Rich joined Rochester’s Sean Robinson at punter, while the Rockets’ Tyler Walker was named the kick return specialist. |
