I am on a team that i have loved for three years straight, but as i begin my senior year i find my teammates not having the passion that i do. It almost hurts me to see people who can play the game and not love it with everything they have. Our team isn't as strong as it has been in the past and we probably won't have a winning record. Evertime i lose a game i come off the ice wondering what i could have done to change the game and everytime i think to myself that i gave it my all every shift. I think the only thing that keeps me loving this game is the fact that i could lose every game 9-0 and still love it just as much. When i lace up the skates or slip on a jersey with my name and number on it...I feel alive in a way noone else can. I am a hockey player and I love what I do. If others don't feel the way I do so be it, but i will do everything in my power to help make my team better, with my heart soul and body I vow to go hard every shift, not for me, not because you told me to, not because i want to go pro or play in college, not because this game has consumed me, I vow to go hard every shift for the love of this game.

| It is nice to know that players still play for the love of the game. I would hope that you are wearing a "C" or "A" on your jersey. It sounds like you could be a leader/role model for your team. Keep your aspirations high, and don't let your teams play get you down. |

| Right now, my team is doing the same exact thing. My freshman year I didn't know what to expect so I started off bad. As I played more my freshman and sophmore years I didn't want to ruin it for the upperclassmen so I gave it my all every shift. Now that I've earned my "A" for my hard work, I'm starting to notice how the underclassmen don't even care. They just play the game for the jersey not for the team or pride. Now it's started to effect us and we're losing dumb games. I don't know if they're going to go through what I did at the beginning of my high school years or what? If I were you, set up a team meeting, no coaches, like our team did and just talk about what you can do to make those kids actually try. We just tried this a few days ago and had the best practice we've had all year. High intensity, good passes, talking, checking, it was perfect. Try that out and see if it'll work. If not, then those not trying shouldn't be playing. |
